TYPES OF SAFETY SHOWERS
A safety shower is a safety device for employees or persons who have come into contact with chemical, corrosive, burning or toxic substances that are harmful to health. A safety shower ensures that the affected person can immediately rinse himself with running water to reduce unpleasant consequences as a result of the calamity.
When talking about a safety shower, a distinction can be made between the drench shower, which is suitable for the entire body, such as a tank shower or a thermos emergency shower, and the eye wash, specially made for cleaning the eyes. There is also a facial shower, which can rinse the entire face at once, and a squeeze shower. This is a manual shower with a flexible hose, which can be used in many different places due to its small size.
SAFETY SHOWER RANGE
The tank shower is widely used in the chemical and petrochemical industry, shipping, offshore and the process industry and guarantees maximum safety. A tank shower has a large storage tank, so that there is always enough water available in the event of an emergency. Because no extra connection or electricity from outside is required in the event of an emergency, it is not possible for a tank shower not to supply water.
If the shower water from the safety shower has to be heated directly at the place of use and a tank shower cannot be installed, there is a thermo emergency shower. The built-in boiler heats the water on site. This increases safety in the event of an emergency and ensures that hypothermia cannot occur. A thermo emergency shower is ideal in areas where the temperature can drop to around freezing point. Fifteen minutes of rinsing with water of approx. 20 degrees is no problem with a thermo emergency shower, even in cold conditions.
A eyewash is ideal for quickly and safely rinsing the eyes in the event of an emergency. An eye wash can be connected to the water supply, so that water is always available. For outdoor use, there is also a frost-free eye wash available, so that heated water is always available.
SAFETY SHOWER GUIDELINES
First of all, a safety shower must be placed in an easily accessible place. This must be at the same working level as where the work is being carried out and not in a corridor, doorway or escape route. A safety shower must also be reachable within 10 seconds or within 30 metres of walking. The place where a safety shower is located must always be well light and must be provided with a universal designation in the form of a icon. A safety shower must always provide clean, running water for at least 15 minutes at a time. The shower head must also be set so that the entire body is wetted in order to rinse off harmful substances everywhere. During the 15 minutes, a safety shower must be able to generate at least 80 litres of water per minute. An eye shower at least six litres per minute. It is important that the water pressure is set so that the water jets cannot damage the eyes.
All Nedelko safety showers comply with all applicable guidelines, such as NEN-EN 15154-3 and DIN 12899-3:2009. Would you like more information? Then contact Contact with us.
